WIP - Foot Artillery Battery

Two months ago I went and ordered the cannons to complete my French 6lb Foot Artillery Battery, so I received the Perry 6lb loading, in greatcoats, and the 5.5 howitzer firing. I really am not to keen on the Perry Guns; I will replace them with Elites or Front rank ones, but I will use them now until I replace them.

Just have to flock the greatcoats base and half way done on the howitzer crew. And I will be complete, Have a game the second Saturday in December I am getting ready for.

I tend to bounce between projects, I find I don't get bored or burned out painting the same thing all over again...after all it a hobby to provide me enjoyment and it does keep my stress down.

Movement Trays & Storage

I have often seen other blogs and site where players have their minis in trays, so I am storing my figures in the ArtBin Super Satchel™ 1-Compartment 6955AB. these are very nice boxes, I know when I start on my lancers I will have to get the deep box, but the nice thing they stack well and look good for the wife.

Inside the box, the infantry stands would shift while I jumbled the box and I wanted the stands and units to remain intact as a Battalion unit. Thus I made some movement trays.

I took 1/8 inch basswood sheets cut to size of the unit, then I glue a 1/4 boarder around the base, I then sprayed it hunter green and it was as simple as that.

The units stack nice inside the boxes, but I do have to keep an eye on flag pole height. I do store my battalions in line formation and place my Perry loose Voltigeurs whom I have base individuality in a battalion in column base

WIP - Carabiniers

I started work on some Carabiniers, Perry plastic models. I have two boxes but have only started to paint up one, I will be modeling the 1st Regiment of Carabiniers.

14 horse and riders from one box, I will be basing to play R2E, I just stuck them on these bases to get a good feel on how I will be basing. The plan is to have three of the figures on 70mm x 60mm bases, the 70mm front gives me enough too to avoid model damage, then squeezing them on a 60mm x 60mm base.

I plan on painting 27, three rows of nine across.

I know I need to take better pictures...working on it I hope...LOL

Back

I am back after a big dry spell, my father was sick and needed to do those family things that are so very important.

On a positive note I have a real good work area now

I have worked on one of my regiments, just have to finish up basing.

Wargaming - ARR

Had our monthly Republic to Empire game yesterday, French forces against Anglo-allies forces (Brunswick's, Belgians, and English Reserves. The French were our numbered two to one so they were in the defense in a built-up area having two brigades of two batallions each; and a six pound battery in a redoubt and a half battery in the buildup area, and in reserve a Cavalry brigade.

The scenario was that the French was to hold the build up area for ten turns (we held for seven and were force out on turn eight)

He deployed across the board front and advanced.

The Anglo-Allies had horse arty and pulled the up to the redoubt and conducted a duel between batteries, the Anglo's had to many good roles. On the right flank the Belgians exposed one batallion and the French cavalry charge that battalion and forced it to flee in panic.

That was the good stuff on the right flank, on the left not so good. The Brunswicker's were massing for an assault and the French battery was being taken down by attrition. With them amassed they assaulted the built-up area, four battalions charged into the area against one battalion, it was a slug fest back and fourth, but even with feeding reserves into the built-up area it was not enough to keep them out and the French were expelled on turn eight. -- so end the game as the French were not with enough strength to come back.

So a rematch in two weeks...we will have more Frenchmen, there on the workbench

French Commander

Finished my first Infantry Commander (Perry Figure & Horse)

Overview
Received my paints on Monday and have been busy painting away on my infantry, but decided to finish up the commander first, have one regiment going, and working on an artillery 6lb piece as well. So I jump around just a little not to burn out on just one thing.

Four views to look at

** of note, I did paint his belt infantry blue, I think this was right, but I think I forgot gold trim

now to get back working on the companies

Wargaming - AAR

Played a little wargaming today, a Flames of War game and a Republic to Empire game.

The RtE game was based on the War of 1812 with a allowance of two of us whom have European forces  to get in and play and learn the rules

My Militia Bde (French were Drilled) others were Recruit
We just played a meeting engagement, four brigades each side. Americans two regular brigades and two militia brigade. The British three regular brigades, one brigade having a veteran regiment and one militia brigade. I played a American militia brigade, one drilled regiment and two recruit regiments, no artillery was assigned to my brigade.

British forces moving
It was a first time for most of us playing, so we took thinks slow and had a few learning curves. I had my recruit militia run from the field, but one of them did bloody one regiment before they broke.

My French holding steady ready for advance

While the militia held the right flank, the main fight was on the left, the Americans were holding the upper hand by taking out two British regiments, but they swung their veteran highlanders and caused a cascading moral failure along the left flank.

All in all it was a good time had by all, it was the first time in over a year the club played these rules, there was a lot of people just watching. Everyone is excited to play again.

Next month we will do European theater, so I can't wait to finish my French Bde.

Paint Ordered

OK, I ordered paint online and well since my local store had issues, I went and ordered some of the Foundry's triads paint set, they are on back order at the Warstore, but I know for sure I will get them. But not to knock my hobby store they can get anything, I think it was maybe bad communication on my part.

Mail is Delivered !!!

The Postman delivered my French Brigade today, I am much happy as now I can start working on painting.

I am very pleased with the Perry deal, ordering direct from them saved me a few dollars and it took eleven days to get to me...I will do it again for sure.

My plan is to start on six figures and see how I do them and then go from there, so I have six Fusiliers for one company, without greatcoats. the next few after that I will try in greatcoats.

I am building 2nd Brigade/13th Infantry Division/IV Corp ---  48 Ligne (2 Battalions) and 69 Ligne (2 Battalions)

Wargaming - FOW

Played Flames of war today, had my American Infantry list against a Hungarian Infantry List, played No Retreat Mission, I was the defender, it was a slug fest going back and forth, but was a fun game.

On a side note we discussed a possible Napoleonic game, using Republic to Empire rules next week, so I am excited to start that. We also talked an hour on basing, I guess my Interest has sparked a few other members in our club to also start wanting to play.

Welcome

OK, I have this Blog I started a long time ago, but never used it, well now I guess it is time that I became productive.

  • Some of the things I will show are me starting 28mm Napoleonic Wargaming and figure painting. I just ordered a French Brigade from Perry.

  • My Flames of War continuing American Army. Working on Platoons and terrain building for a table.

  • And my N scale railroad, currently have a 8 foot x 14 foot layout, always a work in process.

This is like a "therapy" project to keep me sane in an insane world, but I'll share my ups and downs on the hobbies.

I have say I have a wonderful wife whom supports or tolerates my hobbies
